Dropbox??? Empty Dropbox???

Post by SithTracy Sat 7 May 2011 - 13:58

Dropbox - Anyone here using it? Sounds promising for accessing data from anywhere using a laptop or mobile phone, but I am, and always will be, a security skeptic. Put this question out in the mobile area even though there are also apps for the Mac, Windows, and PC (as well as Android, RIM, and i[Devices]).

Would love to hear what users of the service have to say.

I use it and love it, but they tease you with the data limit. I don't recall the actual limit, but I know I'd like more room. I can't really comment on the security of it. I don't put anything private or personal in it. I suppose if you were a competitor it may seem personal, but I use it to keep my phone synced to my phone so I always have access to quotes and stuff on the go. If someone were to hack into it and take the data, I'd be upset, but it isn't like I'm selling anything of real significance. It's just steel.

I looked up the limit...it's 2GB. you want 50gb, that's $10/month, 100GB is $20/month. That's a lot if you ask me. So while I use it and like, it will never be a solution for me because of this cost. I just won't pay that much.

I used it briefly a few months ago on a linux boot for a little bit.not sure if they consider a different OS system a dif account or such. but would definitely NOT get hooked into those fees.

Hi :)
Have looked at it.
Appears you can have single account, yet various OS.
Surprised (NOT) they they really want you to "upgrade" to the larger storage.
More pennies for them.
Worth a look for most users.
This would be free for the majority.
In theory fairly secure.
But I would only use it for for fairly "non-sensitive" stuff, all the same.

heya zebaD , thanks for that info re: the multi OS systems that was pretty much what i had previously thought and had not used it for a while.I still need to use Dropbox for some 'non-sensitive stuff' etc. like some vid clips to share with some family members that I would like them to have the 110 Mb or so files but not all that publicity accessible that has to be very, very easy for them to use and DL.
