My New Build - Page 4 Empty Re: My New Build

Post by sanshoe Mon 16 Jan 2012 - 3:10

Got a question???

I partitioned the HD into two partitions.
One at 300GB for OS and programs, labeled 'C' and one at 600GB labled 'E' for photo's and other stuff.
When I installed XP, it installed it to the 'E' partition instead of 'C'

Should I have been given the option of which partition to install the OS to? and will I be given that option when I install W7? which I am expecting to be delivered today.

Thanks for your help.

Hi :)
In short ...... Yes.
When you 1st install.
You get an option to do a "Custom install".
Then you should be able to select whichever Drive/Partition you want.
This should have been available with XP too!
I guess you basically let it run on "automatic".... rotflmao

Hi :)
It is one of the niceties/problems of windows.
Trying to do too much.
When you install their OS.
They recommend a default, rather than let you choose by default.
You realise that through disc management you can make the drive with the OS on,
Drive C anyway?

Windows7 installed successfully to my allocated C partition.
Still installing programs.
Can't install Outlook Express, had to install Windows live for now.
What is everyones' preference for email programs here??
Also, Browsers..Reccomendations or preferences??

Sent from my new rig with a Dell keyboard.... lol!

P.S...Another maybe dumb question..do I need XP to remain installed on the other partition, or can I clear all that stuff out, or maybe use it as a backup/duel boot thingy.

Hi :)
If it gives you peace of mind.
Keep it.
It may have uses in the future.
Though I doubt it.
If you feel you have the space to spare.
Create a backup of your new OS.
Should you need to fall back on some kind of reserve system.

Got a problem :(

I keep getting a warning from AI Suite II that cpu temp is -1.0 centigrade then the comp shuts down, (not every time) but restarts ok. Temp is normally running at 30c - 40c.... No BSOD

Can anybody suggest a solution, or Idea. MB problem or CPU problem??
thanks in advance.
The technical side beats me every time.
I have enquired on the ASUS forum today, but no reply as yet.

Hi Andrew.

I do not think you have a problem with the motherboard or the CPU. The problem probably lies within Ai Suite itself and how it is configured!

I love ASUS Motherboards but i hate Ai Suite. There are too many setting to configure in that software and if not done correctly they will work against each other and cause problems.

I never instal Ai Suite!

I would suggest you uninstall Ai suite and restart the system and go into the bios and have a look at the temps. if they look alright start windows.

Download Core Temp. It is a dynamite little program to monitor CPU Temperature. http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Another free little program for monitoring your system and for system information is Speccy by piriform. http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Let us know how ya make out.

Hi Andrew, you may want to try AIDA64 to monitor your system. There is a free 30 day trial of the software.

I use the full version and have been for years. A good friend that likes to stay in the Shadow(s) helped me acquire this software a number of years ago.

I now run the latest version of the software and still swear by it for system monitoring.

Here is a link to the download page. Try it and see what it says for the temps. Your motherboard temp off the top of my head should be between about 25C to 35C.

Here is the download link.

Here is the site. http://www.aida64.com/product/aida64-extreme-edition/overview

You should probably contact Asus. I suspect a sensor on the MB is shot... You may have to RMA the board.

I have been on the asus forum, see post #88
The current temp as I type is 4c :)
When it's registering high there is no noticable heat from the MB, think it's just a glitch, may be a conflict of monitoring programs. I'll see how it goes.

Hi Andrew, if you uninstalled Ai suite then it cannot be a conflict. And speccy is not controlling anything or issuing any commands so it cannot be a software conflict.

As Tracy stated it most probably is a bad temp sensor on the motherboard. If I was you I would be starting an RMA process to have the board replaced. At 90 C the board would probably melt... And then to read 4 C later on is crazy. It is physically impossible for the board to be that cool when running and the CPU temp be 30 C.

Got to be a bad sensor

Hi :)
My Temps never go below 28, but never above 45.
(CPU)
With PCWizard (see link in previous post).
You can have a on screen display (top right hand corner by default) enabling you to watch your temps as you compute.
As well as seeing CPU activity etc.
As both previous posts state either faulty motherboard or connection.

I'm going with the BIOS here... That said, perhaps there is a BIOS update that addresses the issue you are seeing. If not, it is worth it to contact ASUS support... of course they will tell you to install AISuite :)

Hi :)
The only problem with checking via the BIOS.
Your PC isn't doing anything.
Try PCWizard.
Have it running in the background.
Then you can see what it reports when your PC is under load.
