Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?

When we have a snow shower and it soon melts we say the snow didn't lie...................so does that mean when this happens the snow is being truthful??

Why is the word Abbreviation so long.
If you split manslaughter into two words it makes Mans Laughter.
