How are the boys going ?

Ehhh... You noticed I have not been talking about it much. Not so great, but not too bad either. The team lacks the spark and we are at the halfway point in the season. They played the Flyers this past Sunday in a cup final rematch and they got smoked at home 4 - 1. Not a good showing, but they looked really good at times. Philly's goalie just looked better. They can easily end up on the outside looking in for the playoffs this year. Have to see what they do to fix some of the issues they have. One being Marty Turco in net... not impressed with his play.

Is he a new boy to the side ?

Hey, I'm not expecting great things with the Cats in the footy this season, but you never know. They might surprise. Ablett off to the new Gold Coast side and one or two retirements will let in some young guys. Has that scenario happened with the Hawks ?

Marty Turco is a veteran acquired by the Hawks after they lost last years net-minder, Antti Niemi to salary arbitration. He has not performed well and cost them a number of games this year. Now, he is not the only one to blame. Team play and chemistry are not there with the young blood that came up... That said, they are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, though they are at the bottom of the hunt in a very tight and talented division this year. I think they will get in, but how far they get depends on how far they can go as a team.

We get a similar thing with the footy finals. We have 8 teams that play-off for the flag. The bottom 2 or 3 teams just make up the numbers really. It's almost a money grab by the AFL.

Redwings are doing well, but are having trouble from time to time. Typical scenario, when they show up to play as a team with focus, they win. There have been a fair amount of games that they just didn't show up to play and have gotten their butts whipped. Fortunately, there have been far more games they show up ready to play hockey and their record reflects that. Still a lot of hockey to play this season and now that the NFL season concluded with my Green Bay Packers as the winner of the Super Bowl, I can focus more time on hockey!

Odds are the Hawks will not make the post season this year to defend the cup. They lack focus and only a few of them show up to play night after night.
