Re: What are you listening to?
At 14 years old, I hate modern music, and would like to apologize for what my generation has done to music. I like old music.
Boston is awesome, Kansas is awesome, I don't really like Styx, except for the song, "Come Sail Away." Chicago is cool, but not my favorite. Right now, I am listening to my hero, who inspires me to practice my trumpet whenever I don't necessarily feel like it.
What I am listening to now:
Maynard Ferguson's Cover of Birdland (Birdland was originally by Weather Report.)
-----------------------
I also love:
Maynard's Cover of MacArthur Park (MacArthur Park was originally by Jimmy Webb)
Maynard's Cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water (I do not know who originally wrote this song.)
I love millions more, but these are my favorite three.
What I find surprising is that, while I know who Maynard is, lots of adults who I know that were my age during the Maynard Era have no idea who he is. I was wondering if anyone on here knows, by any chance, who he is.

Sorry David I'm a 60's 70's type of guy and do not know who he is. Although the name does sound familiar.
You need to listen to more Styx! A dynamite band back in the day.

Re: What are you listening to?
I should listen to more Styx, but I can never force myself to listen to anything other than, "Come Sail Away." It is the only thing by Styx that I have heard that I genuinely like.
YES! I REMEMBER NOW! Bridge Over Troubled Water was Simon and Garfunkel! I knew the name at one point, but then forgot it!
It is kind of funny that we are talking about music because my friend just handed over the Founder's Account for a ForuMotion forum that he created, but doesn't want anymore. I am trying to sell it because I need money for my forum because, although I have the money, I don't have a credit card to transfer the money to my PayPal, and my parents won't let me use theirs. (Keep in mind that I am 14 years old.) On top of that, I am not receiving any donations. :-(

Re: What are you listening to?
Don't hate me guys...
I found Styx a bit 'light' Liked one or two songs.
ToTo, Boston ... the same. Only a couple of songs from each that had of a hard edge'
That's just me. Led Zep, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, SRV, Pink Floyd, The Angels.
Go back a bit further... The Who, Jimi H., The Doors.
Back further... The Easybeats (Friday on My Mind etc).
Go back a long way... Robert Johnson (1930's). Had his CDs for over 15 years now...brilliant !
JAZZ: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Donald Byrd, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey, Clifford Brown, Max Roach,
Freddie Hubbard. to name a few.
Classical: wow... I still get blown away by listening to this stuff. How these guys could come up with the beautiful music is beyond me. I like a lot of todays stuff, but still find I go back to my favs. Sorry, but I hate country music.

I like the Styx tune released around the Gulf war... That was pretty good...
Reminds me that my brother was there and is back every time I hear it.

Re: What are you listening to?
Okay, so now I like two Styx songs.
1.) Come Sail Away
2.) Show Me The Way
----------------------------
I am so surprised that nobody knows Maynard!

Andrew De Leon, Austin Auditions ~ America's Got Talent 2012
This story and performance almost brought me to tears.
Re: What are you listening to?
This is a weird song. I am afraid to know what exactly the hidden meaning is.
