My New Build
Well here I go, as some of you may know I am about to embark on a Mysterious Journey into the unknown world (to me) of computers... and build my first one. :)
I have purchased one of these..
http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-16011040-Thermaltake_V3_Black_Edition_Mid_ATX_Tower_Black_SECC_Plastic_10x_Drive_Bays_Sid
It has a 450w power supply which I will upgrade to 550-650w.
Also purchased a.. Samsung Spinpoint 1TB hard drive,
and a Samsung SH-222AB/BBS Burner.
Also going to get a Bluray combo Reader/Burner.
For a M/B I'm going with this..
http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-28023463-ASUS_P8H67-M_Pro_New_B3_Revision_-_LGA1155_-_Dual_DDR3-1333_-_Intel_H67(B3)_Chip
Coupled with the i5 CPU.
Thoughts welcome, but try not to confuse me with too much information.. :)
There is no rush to finish it, I'll get the items as funds become availiable.
The putting together shouldn't be a problem, It's the Technical stuff I'll need help with.
By the way, thanks smduff, but the postage was the killer.
more to follow later.

We read the first post, looked at the pictures and have decided we want more. I hope this clears up any confusion on your part.

Re: My New Build
Question?/ Memory, what memory should I use?
The M/B will be the Asus P8P67. The processor will be Intel i5.
Which would be best DDR3 or DDR2, Buffered or unbuffered? What's the difference? Googled but got confused too much information.
This looks like a good buy..
http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-37140681-G_Skill_8GB(2x_4GB)_Memory_Kit_PC3_10666_(1333MHz)_DDR3_240_pin_DIMM_Timing_9_9_
Here's the first pic..installed the samsung SH222 burner, and the Samsung 1TBhard drive.
Gee!!! look at all those wires.
The temporary Power supply..

Re: My New Build
Here is a good article to read Buffered vs unbuffered ram
Basically, comparable unbufffered ram is the faster than buffered ram, but is harder on memory controller. It is almost always the type of memory that you see today. Most manufacturers don't even tell you if memory is buffered or unbuffered anymore...as most is unbuffered. Based on what you have stated in prior threads, I would recommend DDR3 (faster than DDR2), unbuffered ram. That is the "best" that you mother board supports. As a matter of fact, I don't see where your MB supports buffered memory. It likely won't work at all.
What you linked to looks like a pretty good deal

Re: My New Build
Another question...
Just purchased a Asus P8P67 LE Motherboard.
and think I have screwed up already.. "Great start."
According to this Intel site.. http://ark.intel.com/compare/52807,52810, the intergrated graphics of the i5 wont work with the board I ordered
I was going with the i5 processor because of the intergrated graphics, but that only works with the H67 chipset. Please correct me if I am wrong.
The M/B I just purchased has the P67 Chipset.
I can return it unopened if necessary, but I went with this one because it had blue tooth capabillity.
Any thoughts??

Re: My New Build
Andrew, you are correct. H67 chipset is needed to make use of the onboard graphics but limits you OC ability. The P67 allows for overclocking but does not has access to onboard graphics. Look at the I/O on the MB and you will see no graphics connection on the P67.
You can pick up a BT adaptor for about $20.

Re: My New Build
Thanks Bob, as I have no intention of overclocking at all, I may just return the M/B unopened and go with a H67 chipset board .
This board is a full ATX size, I'd prefer the full size ATX board because I believe it allows for better expansion, additional cards than the microATX and uATX, further down the track.
If I keep this current P67 board and use the i5 processor, I would just have to add a decent GPU to get the benefits from the i5, have i got that right???
As I said puting it together, no problems..lining up what goes with what, that's the problem. lol.
More questions to follow probably..
Got close..

Re: My New Build
Thanks Joel, the reason I'd prefer the H67 is that I could use the incorperated graphics of the i5 untill i could sort out a decent gpu to put in later.
I have spoken to the supplier of the M/B and returning it's no problem, except I have to pay for postage both ways and a handling fee, so up goes the cost. :(
and they don't have full size ATX board with the H67chip.
I'll give it some more thought.

Re: My New Build
Thought about it, and think I'll exchange the P8P67 for this one..

Final decision... see my sig.
