Here is an alternative to MS Office

OpenOffice.org 3 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

I use Open Office, what made me download and install it was I needed to use a spreadsheet that I downloaded.
At the time I was using Microsoft works 2004, and was unable to alter the spreadsheet with that.
Open Office is a bit slow to load, but apart from that, it is all that I need . It rocks.

Glad to hear your recommendation Hugo.

I have heard a lot about this office suite over the years and although started the thread have not actually installed yet. I do have it downloaded to install on the kids & my own PC as with 4 m/c's it could get a bit pricey going with MS and hopefully will get it installed sometime this week. :D

MS is going to take on some beta testers for Office 2010 so I read here. http://lifehacker.com/5403172/make-yourself-eligible-for-an-office-2010-starter-beta?skyline=true&s=i
And follow the link.
Needless to say I have used all my email address to get a chance to try it out.
