Winter Olympics
Anyone been watching the Winter Olympics from Vancouver yet?
Saw the replay of the womens Moguls this morning & when you see the speed that they go over the bumps on the way down it's a wonder so many make it to the bottom still upright on the ski's
Must admit I do like the Winter Olympics (watching from the warmth of the sofa )
The biggest problem is the live coverage does not start until after midnight for us over here.

If you have digital you can watch the catch up, almost 24/7.
That's what I've been doing :D
And emigrate?? you must be joking it's cold enough here as it is
Re: Winter Olympics
I'm looking forward to Olympic Hockey... I'll bet that does not surprise anyone.
Though I am hoping for a repeat of the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics miracle, but even if it did, it won't have the same effect with all these pro NHL players representing their countries.

Just as well our Eddie the Eagle is not around on the jump slopes these days - despite being on the other side of the country from you the would still have been a chance of him getting lost and landing in your back yard

Alex I remember Eddie the Eagle. Wasn't that back around the time of the Jamaican Bobsled team? LOLbubbles19 wrote:4Hams

What about the board riders and what's his name ... Tomato Head or something. The Aussies over there have nick-named him 'Bluey' (term for redheads. He seems to like that better.

I think the U.S. just has more athletes than other countries. LOLbubbles19 wrote:Well the end is in sight and we still only have the 1 medal....oh well there is always next time

What is really strange is that Before this year Canada had never attained a Gold Medal in the Winter Olympics when held here in Canada. Last i saw yesterday we had more Gold medals than any other country!!!
Are all the judges Canadian? LOL
Well in about 3 and a half hours the Canada/USA Gold medal Hockey game gets under way. This should prove to be the best game yet as both teams are very hungry for that Gold. We managed a Gold in the Womens hockey but something tells me the men will not be so easy to beat...
Re: Winter Olympics
You could be right there with the US having more athletes than anyone else - always improves the chance of success.
I did see last night that some of the countries has at least 3 x 4 man bob teams

Re: Winter Olympics
I still cannot figure out how they score in the Curling but found myself glued to the set for a while yesterday?
Bobsleding is cool. I saw one of the womens teams roll and the rear gaurd slid right out tha back of the sled...

Re: Winter Olympics
Now Sith will be happy - USA pulled level with less than 25 secs before the end of 3rd period

Re: Winter Olympics
I'm not upset with the outcome of the Olympic Hockey Gold Medal game... It was an outstanding hard fought event and in overtime, Canada prevailed. They were two evenly matched teams and it could have went either way. Congrats to Canada on the Gold!!! As a hockey fan, this has been a wonderful two weeks. Sure, I wish the puck would have bounced the other way, but the American team was outstanding... I stayed up late to watch the Bronze medal game too... Another great battle. Team Finland came back from two goals down in the third to win it 5 - 3 (4 goals in the final period).
Hockey is a fast and wonderful sport. I'll bet this Olympic year has earned the NHL some new fans as a result.
Congrats again to Canada.

Re: Winter Olympics
Unless you have the package on foxtel (I don't have it) you have to rely on the free to air stations to do the right thing.... didn't !!
I'll have to put up with a piddly couple of highlights on the news tonight.
I always liked the game, but more so now after watching extended highlights of other games
What I like about it is that it's almost non stop for the quarter. Am I right ?
One of our stations created a sports channel (digital reception only) has a lot of good ones on it, but no hockey.

Re: Winter Olympics
As a Canadian i am very proud of the outcome but it was definately a nail biter... I was so tense at the end of the 3rd period and then overtime I almost had a heart attack. Congrats go out to the U.S. Mens team as well a very hard faught game!
I am most proud of the fact that Canada has also broken the record for most Gold medals ever won by one country in the winter olympics 14 one more than the previous title holders whom I believe were the Russians?

Well almost. It is pretty much non stop but they are called periods and there are only 3 of them.Alby wrote:Unless you have the package on foxtel (I don't have it) you have to rely on the free to air stations to do the right thing.... didn't !!
