Bankers Bonuses Empty Bankers Bonuses

Post by LeslieG Fri 26 Feb 2010 - 12:07

I have just been watching the news on TV (One of the many perks of retirement) Anyway the two pieces that caught my attention were the financial annual results for the Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Bank (Remember the tax payer owns aound 80% of the former and around 50% of the latter)

The bank of Scotland has made a loss of £3,900,000,000,000 (£3.9 Billion)
Lloyds made a loss of £6,700,000,000,000 (£6.7 Billion)

Despite these financial losses both banks are intending to pay out nearly £2,000,000,000,000
in bonuses to bank employees (£2 Billion)

The question that springs to my mind is If they have LOST over £10 Billion between them where on earth are they going to find the £4 Billion to pay these bonuses. I guess that they will borrow it from the tax payer again or borrow it from another bank. :affraid: :affraid:

(I know that if asked they will say it will come from reserves)

Its been a long time since I did maths at school, but I seem to remember that two minus's make a plus. Perhaps that how they worked it out.

Something far wrong here.

if they hand out another 4bn in bonuses does that not mean their loss next year will be even greater ?? Duh!
